Date Night: halloween

I know this blog is a little late...but when have you ever known me to be on time????

So Halloween is my favorite time of year...dressing up, decorating, pumpkin carving...it's all pretty awesome.

On this date night we explored this little town of Iowa City....came across some cool looking forresty trails and found a Mexican Food place that didn't suck.
We wondered up to the trail and just started following it....a great way to get yourself lost in a town you are not familiar with...not the best of ideas, so of course we follow it.
On the trail past some of the trees we see a huge opening and more trails that lead off into different directions.. Then randomly there was a person, just some lady walking on the trails. We stopped her asked her which way we should go, she said to stay on the path or we will get lost in the woods. She gave our little walk a very Alice in Wonderland vibe. Then she walked on faster than us into the woods and disappeared. We also realized we are out of shape and walk real slow.

Once in the woods, there were all these sounds that make you think that some villain in a slasher movie is going to jump out and stab you to death. Or sounds of a large animal is preying on you waiting for the perfect moment to attack. But really it was just a squirrel, maybe a couple squirrels.
In a place like this my imagination runs wild, my heart beats faster and I start to scare myself..haha.
Looking at the beautiful houses that line the woods was cool, this one we felt looked like the house in Twilight....I laughed to myself. But really though this house was pretty cool, it had a huge yard and a basketball court (not seen in photo).

We made our way out of the woods and came across the beginning of the trails, where we should have started.....I would do this backwards. There was a map, the map told about the woods and some of the history of the area, it was pretty interesting....considering that the history is not online so I cannot share it with you...and I didn't think of copying it off of the map...silly me.
After the trail we decided we were going to try our hand at Mexican food in this town for the last time, every time before now has been disappointing so we gave Iowa City one last chance at Mexican food.
Being from San Diego we know Mexican food and love it, and since we have been in Iowa City we have been let down time and time again by suggestions of others that said "oh this place is the best" "go here, this place is really good"
Tonight we went to La Cava in Coralville and I will say the service was great and the food not to shabby...
Our server/bartender was Alex (adorable guy) he was nice, suggested drinks (did not say Pepsi products (btw my biggest pet peeve in this town so far)) and for that I got a delicious margarita.

He brought over chips and salsa, so far this place is winning me over, and the menus has more of a variety than quesadillas, burritos and enchiladas.... I ordered flautas... although they looked like egg rolls they were really good and the guacamole was good too not over powered by lime.
Josh got cheese enchiladas, but he wasn't as impressed as I was...he's just hard to please I suppose. Or to him nothing compares to San Diego Mexican food.....
On the was to the bathroom there was this table, I laughed and enjoyed the spirit of Halloween this place had....warmed my heart.
After dinner we picked out a couple of pumpkins to carve. You know, pumpkin carving is important and you need to have the right pumpkin, you can't put a masterpiece on a ratty looking pumpkin, unless of course that is what you are going for....
Josh is not used to carving pumpkins...I gave him a marker to draw his face with then had him carve along the lines....in theory it was a great idea...but it was a permanent marker and didn't wash off like I thought it would...oops.
I still think his pumpkin came out cute. and mine, well mine looks scared of his hahahaha. That was not on purpose. I think it's funny because mine has fangs and is scared of the one that doesn't.

my pumpkin is like "omg, what is that?"

Happy Halloween!!
