Date Night with Heather: Adventure Time!!

On this super fun date night, Heather and I went to dinner at Bo Beau in O.B. and then went kayaking at Mission Bay and see the Seaworld fireworks. Funny thing about this date is that when I was talking about buying the vouchers for the night kayaking on livingsocial.com no one really wanted to go, kayaking at night seemed to scare everyone, everyone that is except my fearless friend Heather.

So we made our reservation and were ready to rock..we heard many great things about Bo Beau in O.B so we decided to try it out. The person who took our reservation for the kayaking said to get there around 8 and wear shorts and flip flops, so we looked cute at dinner and brought a change of clothes.

We got to the restaurant around six. as we walked up I realize perhaps heels was not the way to go. The sidewalk in made of small rocks....

The restaurant was super cute, wish we had more time to really look around but we were on a schedule (kinda)

We walk in and the manager, Janet asks if we want to sit outside or inside, we choose outside, she shows us to our table and tell us about the special and about some of really good things we should try. We take her suggestions and get the treaty of paris drink it has beefeater gin, eucamint sour and smashed green grapes. As Janet said "it's refreshing and very drinkable" and it was some tasty goodness. She also suggested the crispy brussels sprouts, Heather immediately made a face but Janet insisted that they were delicious so we also tried, hell that is why we are here, to try new things.

crispy brussels sprouts
The brussels sprouts were sweet and salty and good, Heather was impressed with them, me not so much but then again (as Shealyn says) I don't like anything hahaha.   Heather was also impressed with the look of all the food "how do they get it to look messy and beautiful at the same time?"

Heather likes them

Treaty of Paris
We felt so special when the chef came out in her chefy outfit to see how we were doing. I looked at Heather and said I feel like VIP, like we are on the food network or something hahahaha

such a cute place
We finally figure out what we are doing...Heather orders. We figure we'll just share everything.

Heather kept laughing at me taking pics
While Heather consumed the brussels sprouts, Janet came by and told us about the special, Corn Flake Fried Chicken...sure being it on!

I was a little confused because I wanted to eat it with my fingers but we were in a slightly more fancy place, so then I must use my fork and knife....and with the jam the chicken was really good.
Heather being fancy

This piece of spinach I was trying to eat would not stay in my mouth, it kept popping out and I could not stop laughing. And I didn't want to just push it in my mouth with my finger because again we are at a fancy place for crying out loud.....so the leafy goodness kept popping out of my mouth...bloop...bloop...bloop. Looking back I guess I should have just pushed it in with my finger but oh well...shit was funny.

The third thing we got was a woodstone oven flat bread. It was recommented we choose the Roasted Beets Flat Bread with goat cheese, curry onion jam, crushed red peppers and jalapenos... I am not a fan of jalapenos so we got a different one..Chorizo Flat Bread with  serrano, marinara,  five italian cheeses and basil...it was very good. The chorizo looked like bacon...did not taste like bacon though.

Heather is a messy eater hahahaha
Usually I ham the messy one, dropping food everywhere, but not this time...granted my food didn't want to stay in my mouth. Heather managed to get her food EVERYWHERE haha
At this point Heather was getting stuffed..she felt she couldn't eat anymore...I told her to slow down we still had more food coming hahaha.
We also ordered leek "fondue" mac n cheese with lobster it had green apple sour cream on top...interesting and quite tasty. It was creamy with a nice light crispy top layer. Very Yummy!

Dessert! We originally declined but then again it is dessert so ok...twist our arm.

We had crème brulee and it was oooooohhhhhhh so good.
But then we had to get going to make it to kayaking on time....we had to be there at 8 pm and we were cutting it close so as we raced through traffic I changed into my kayaking clothes which was a cute one piece I just slipped on under my dress.  We got to the place thinking we were too late because we were 7 minutes late but we see the truck that has the kayaks and felt a little relieved. We grab our vouchers and release forms and Heather's change of clothes and head over to the truck.

A man names Rob was setting up the kayaks and no one else was there...Heather went to change and I gave him our papers, he thanked me for being prepared, it's what I do (you should see what's in my purse, if Macguyver needed anything to build a plane and fly us to safety he would probably find it in my purse, and we can thank my boyfriend for that) if someone tells me I have to have this, this and this then I will have that or I will have a panick attack, and don't get me started on time and if I think I'm going to be late for something I will lose my shit....

Heather comes back and Rob tells us that 6 other people are supposed to be joining us...ok but no one is here. We wait and offer to help Rob finish setting up...it is now 8:30 no one has arrived and Rob says ok looks like it's just going to be us, fine by me.
As we were putting on out life vests (safety first) I spot 4 people walking towards us and I tell Rob that people are coming and it as it turns out they are part of our group. They walk up and announce that they are here, Rob tells them that they are too late, they argue that they are 3 minutes late, Rob says that they are supposed to be here a half hour ago, they group claims they know no such thing "no one told me" Rob says fine they can go, then asks for their release forms and what a surprise they don't have any...they didn't know. Rob then puts his foot down and says no they cannot go. The group gets all pissy calling Rob an asshole and makes more rude comments then they walk off, Heather and I help Rob put away the extra kayaks, then I the group drives up and says "just so you know, me and my friend are going to be deployed on Friday and tonight was last time we were going to have a night out with our wives" my thoughts were don't be late, jerk. Heather got real  pissed. I was so glad that the jerks didn't get with us after all.
After the kayaks are put away Rob gives us some instructions on how to steer the kayak and has us take our kayak down to the water, we get in and he has us go over to the buoy, as we do I start singing the theme song to Jaws (which I later find out that Heather has never seen that movie) he paddles over and we begin a history lesson about San Diego's harbor, Heather seemed to be interested in it, but I really wasn't listening I was too mesmerized by my surroundings. The stars, the lights, the darkness, the calmness of the water. The water was also very warm, I wanted to just jump in it. We paddle over to Sea World and Rob then gives us a history lesson on Sea World itself which I did listen to. (I love Sea World)
Rob points out where the fireworks are going to be and we paddle over to a safety area to watch them, Rob then gives us a history lesson on fireworks, which I thought was very interesting.
The fireworks begin and it was so beautiful, they were life right above us, I wanted to just lay back and enjoy..you kinda forget that you are on the water (25 feet deep by the way) Heather was all ooo's and ahh's and said over and over "I like the big boom". We seriously both turned into children. We both liked the popcorn ones, the colors were amazing. When the fireworks were over we prattled straight back to the beach area we started from... Every time I thought I really had the hang of it, I would splash large amounts of water on myself and realize real quick I didn't have any idea what I was doing haha.

I didn't take this pic, I was scared to take my camera out on the water

I also did not take this pic, but wanted to show you a pic of fireworks :)

The after photo

It was so fun, we got back and helped Rob put away our kayak. We couldn't stop giggling, Rob says "you two have a lot of together, huh?" we agree, we do.
We were so wet and sandy and sticky, went over to the shower to rinse our legs and feet and then went home.
Heather is definitely one to have a super fun adventure with, and what an awesome adventure it was.
