Date Night..Surprise Adventure

On this day my wonderful boyfriend woke me up and dragged me out of bed (literally, like it was an emergency. I walk into the living room to see he had made me coffee and breakfast.
Normally I would be mad to be woken up like that and the house was not on fire but how could I be mad at a man who cooked me breakfast? Seriously.

After we ate we went for a short walk. Then I wanted to go to the Dollar Tree (dollar store for those who didn't get that) so we get dressed...currently living in Iowa City in October it's a bit cold and is being from San Diego we dress like its freaking snowing outside. I am going to be none too happy when it actually snows :/.
We start driving, well Josh starts driving because his car is a stick and actually scares me to drive it, but that's another story.

So Josh drives and Iowa City isn't really that big so once we got out on the highway then we just kinda went until we hit the next town or so. We hit this town called West Branch a very small town although they had a lot of antique shops also the birthplace and gravestone of the 31st president, Herbert Hoover.

We looked around at the home Hoover was born in....a 2 room cabin, and I mean 2 rooms! Living room and bedroom, and they had three kids in that house.....WOW!!!

After we looked through the house, we walked down and saw a little Quaker Church.

There were 2 sides with sliding blinds that separated the rooms. At first it looked like a huge mirror because the rooms are identical. We continued walking through a park like area and found the gravesite of President Hoover.

As we started leaving the site we saw some cute antique stores and I love antiquing....and that is where we saw this awesome torture device.....hahaha

Once out of West Branch, Josh continued to drive east....he seemed to be on a mission. We drove to Davenport, Ia...his plan was to watch the sunset on the Mississippi River because I love sunsets :)
He really is too good to me.
We cross the bridge over the Mississippi into Illinois....but couldn't seem to find a place to sit and watch the sunset without a building or train or ugly fence in the way so we drove back over the bridge to a little bay area.

:)

We saw a riverboat casino and I got excited but it doesn't move...we decided to check it out anyways, maybe the inside would be more interesting....no such luck, mostly touch screen slot machines and smokers. FAIL!
There were a couple cool things about this place. One was this hotdog stand outside the casino that had a list on the wall showing Famous Floods...I thought that was pretty cool.

The second thing I thought was cool was this elevator that took you to a bridge that really went no where but over looked an alley...it was cool because it changed colors.

We left Davenport and went home and had pizza that night...it was a good day adventure.
