Date night: Baby it's cold outside

This night wasn't so much a date night as just a kindness kinda night. My friend and great artist Gregory Dameron posted on facebook that it is getting cold out and he wanted to give out sandwiches and blankets to the homeless and he asked if anyone wanted to help. I jumped to the chance. I collected some blankets and bought bottles of water, Gregory made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and brought oreos, Trisha brought homemade cookies (made by her sister Betsy) and blankets, Sabrina donated socks and blankets.

The group of us set up a bunch of paper bags and started packing our goodies into them (I snuck a delicious christmas cookie that Betsy made, so friggin' good)

Once all packed up, Greg's dad handed out some super yummy hot apple cider to our group before we ventured off to look for people in need. We took separate cars. My boyfriend and I in one car, Trisha and Gregory in another and Gregory's family in another. After a small discussion it was decided that the caravan would follow me, bad idea considering I can get lost in a paper sack....so I pulled over and let my boyfriend drive. haha
We drove around Downtown for a bit but didn't see any homeless people...after driving quite a while without seeing a person to hand things out to, I finally called up my team.....Gregory and Trisha were no longer behind us they stopped off to pick up Trisha's sister Betsy...so we pulled over to talk to the cars still behind us (Gregory's dad) we talk for a bit and decide to officially split up...each car going their own way.
And again we were off through the streets of Downtown where we finally see a small group of people camped out, we pull over and I got out and started handed out our bags. One man said "oh, goodies?" and I said "yes" I was a bit nervous at first but I got great feedback from them, they were very excited about our bag of goodies, people just started coming up to us as I was handing them out, one lady said "god bless you" I smiled. I watched them for a small moment opening their bags and showing one another what they got, like kids on Christmas morning. I smiled and put the remaining 3 bags in the backseat so it was easier to get to.
I got in the car and we were off looking for more people. We drove on and found a very small group of people which was good because we only had 3 bags left and one of the bags was the one with the 2 loaves of bread and jar of peanut butter. We pull over and I began handing the bags out, a woman came up to me and asked if she could have a bag for her friend behind her, I said "of course" then handed the bread and peanut butter to a group of 3 people in a small make shift tent, as I walked back to the car I heard the woman yell out "yippie!"
I got back in the car and we drove off feeling all warm and fuzzy inside then we saw a lot of tents on the sidewalks and felt bad that we didn't have anymore bags to give out. I called Gregory and Trisha to see if they handed out all their bags, Gregory got very confused on the phone, I was telling him to come to where we were and that we would wait for them not realizing that they gave out all their bags and not only that but they really only had like 3 bags anyways...my car had a good portion of the bags.
So we drove home feeling good about our good deed and totally going to be doing this again....what a rewarding night, feels great to help others :):)
